Full day

Bombah Point ferry circuit

Best for: Self-drive explorers linking lake precincts

For drivers who need the ferry: cash ready, wind backup plan, Boolambayte / Bombah Broadwater stops, no overstuffed multi-park day.

The Bombah Point vehicle ferry is a separate fee from park entry. Official visitor info (re-checked 12 Aug 2026): cash only, 8am–6pm daily; strong wind can close the ferry — contact the park office.

Dogs are not permitted on the ferry or in the park. Unsealed road sections need a rain check.

This plan is logistics-first: cash, hours, wind and one honest lake stop — not Grandis + Seal Rocks + full Mungo rainforest before dark.

Park entry remains separate (official $8/vehicle/day list price — re-check). Camping is NPWS booking only if you overnight.

Track status, weather and closures change — verify on NSW National Parks before you leave, then use the timeline below as a planning skeleton only.

Timeline

  1. Before you leave

Cash + hours + backup plan

Confirm ferry hours and wind. Know a non-ferry road exit if service stops. Park entry still applies separately. Screenshot visitor-info and local alerts.

  2. Morning

    Cross Bombah Point ferry

Queue buffer on holidays. Official fee table (re-check): pedestrians, motorbikes, cars, caravans/trailers, heavier vehicles. Cash only — no EFTPOS assumption.

  3. Midday

    One lake stop only

Pick Boolambayte edge, Neranie headland context, or Mungo Brush — not all three hard. If energy remains after a calm stop, a short signed walk only when open.

  4. Afternoon

    Return window

Protect the last practical crossing or drive the long way without inventing shortcuts. Wind can cancel return — treat that as a real Plan B, not a joke.

  5. Evening

    Town recovery

Bulahdelah / Tea Gardens / Hawks Nest for fuel and food. Note road surface lessons for next time after rain.

Parking & access tips

  • Unsealed Bombah Point Road sections after rain — confirm conditions.
  • Do not merge ferry fee with day vehicle fee in your budget.
  • Arrive with cash before you leave sealed-road services.
  • Never block ferry approaches or emergency access.

Skip if short on time / energy

  • Seal Rocks full lighthouse day the same afternoon
  • The Grandis + full Mungo rainforest + ferry all forced
  • Long coastal multi-section walks after a late ferry start
  • Any pet-inclusive plan (dogs not on ferry or in park)

Extra tips

Who this plan is for

  • Drivers who need the mid-park ferry link
  • Visitors who will treat wind closures as real
  • Groups happy with one lake stop done well

Decision gates

  • If wind is forecast strong: assume ferry may close; plan non-ferry roads
  • If you have no cash: do not drive to the ferry hoping for EFTPOS
  • If queues eat the morning: one stop only after crossing — protect return
  • If rain has hammered unsealed roads: confirm conditions or reverse the day

Fee systems (keep separate)

  • A — Day vehicle entry
  • B — Ferry cash
  • C — Camping (if overnight)
  • D — Fishing licence / beach driving rules if relevant

Related trail guides

  • Neranie Headland walking trackHeadland walking option on the Boolambayte / Neranie side of the Myall Lakes system. Confirm track details on NPWS. Useful when your base is the ferry corridor rather than Seal Rocks.
  • Mungo Rainforest walkShort coastal rainforest loop from the northern end of Mungo Brush campground — plum pine, mock olive and coogera character that feels nothing like an open beach day. Easy logistics once you are already at Bombah Broadwater; still needs park entry, sensible footwear and a check of local alerts.
