Things to do

Myall Lakes is a multi-sport park: calm lakes, long beaches, short rainforest loops, a cash ferry, a tall tree, and an ocean headland chapter. Pick one quality chapter per day. Always re-check local alerts and fees before you leave.

Some stay, tour and gear links may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Park entry fees, the Bombah Point ferry, fishing licences and official NPWS camping bookings are never affiliated.

1 · Lakes · ramps · wind

Kayaking & calm-water boating

Bombah Broadwater, Boolambayte and the Myall lake system are the park’s calm-water draw. Match craft to wind; broadwater chop is not a swimming-pool flat. Use signed ramps (Mungo Brush and others — [VERIFY]). Wear a PFD and have a turnaround plan.

2 · Ocean · rips · summer peak

Beaches & dunes

40+ km of beaches including Mungo Beach reward calm days — and punish poor judgement. Rips and currents are real. Swim only if skill and conditions match; there is usually no lifeguard service inside the park. Soft sand kilometres are a fitness tax.

3 · 1.5 km · Grade 3 · shade

Mungo Rainforest walk

The best short loop: about 1.5 km, Grade 3, northern end of Mungo Brush campground when open. Rare coastal rainforest and birdwatching — best first walk for mixed groups. Always [VERIFY] live status on NPWS.

4 · Tall tree · picnic · families

The Grandis picnic stop

A very tall flooded gum (Eucalyptus grandis), often cited around 76 m, at the picnic area north-east of Bulahdelah. Easy nature stop — stay on signed paths; do not climb the tree. Strong combine with a ferry circuit day.

8 · Wetlands · forest · quiet hours

Birdwatching & Ramsar wetlands

Ramsar-listed wetland values, lake edges and coastal forest host waterbirds, honeyeaters and raptors when present. Dawn and quiet shoulder seasons beat midday campground noise. Optics and patience beat drone harassment.
